About Zygomatic Implants
What are zygomatic implants?
Sky Dental Concept, Belgrade, Serbia
Zigomatični implanti
"In patients who do not have enough bone in the upper jaw for standard implants, zygomatic implants use a different support. Instead of relying exclusively on the bone of the upper jaw, they are placed in the zygomatic, or cheek bone."
"This method is most often considered in patients in whom classic implant therapy would require bone augmentation and multiple stages of treatment. In certain cases, zygomatic implants can be combined with standard dental implants to achieve better load distribution and more stable prosthetic work."
Advantages of zygomatic implants
Zygomatic implants are an advanced solution for patients with extensive bone loss, as they can provide stable support for fixed prosthetic work in patients with significant bone loss, often without the need for prior augmentation. Possible benefits of this therapy are:
-
01/
Fast procedure
In selected patients, the path to fixed prosthetic work can be shorter because, in some cases, previous bone augmentation is avoided.
-
02/
Cost-effectiveness
In some cases, the total costs of therapy may be different compared to the classic approach with bone augmentation, because the therapy plan depends on the number of implants, the type of prosthetic work, and the complexity of the case.
-
03/
Without bone augmentation
Because of the support in the cheekbone region, bone augmentation is often not necessary.
-
04/
High stability
A support in the zygomatic bone can provide a stable basis for prosthetic work in patients with pronounced bone resorption of the upper jaw.
-
05/
Natural aesthetics
Well-planned prosthetic work can contribute to a more natural smile, better lip support, and a more harmonious facial profile.
how it works
The process of installing zygomatic implants
The process takes place through several clearly defined steps, from consultation to permanent work, so that each patient clearly understands the stages and expectations. The focus is on careful planning, risk assessment, stability of prosthetic work, and patient comfort.
-
1
Consultation and planning
The therapy begins with a 3D diagnosis and analysis of the anatomy of the upper jaw, sinuses, cheekbones, and soft tissues. We analyze the state of the sinuses and soft tissues, assess the quality of the cheekbone region, and create a digital plan, along with an assessment of whether you are a candidate for therapy. During the consultation, we also go through your medical history, habits, and expectations in order to choose the safest protocol.
-
2
Preparation for surgery
Before the procedure, the patient receives clear information about the course of the intervention, anesthesia, possible extractions, nutrition, and recovery. If necessary, we plan extractions of teeth that cannot be saved, explain the type of anesthesia, and agree on guidelines for nutrition and recovery before and after the procedure.
-
3
Installation of zygomatic implants
Implants are placed in the zygomatic, i.e., cheekbone, according to a predefined digital plan. The procedure is performed according to a plan that determines the position, angle, and depth of implant placement. Depending on the case, the plan may include one or more zygomatic implants, alone or in combination with standard implants.
-
4
Temporary work
In certain patients, it is possible to place a temporary fixed prosthetic work in the short term after implant placement. Hygiene and nutritional guidelines help to reduce the risk of complications and support proper healing.
-
5
Placement of permanent prosthetic work
After a period of stabilization, permanent work is created that combines aesthetics and function. The goal is an aesthetically harmonious appearance, a stable bite, and prosthetic work adapted to the patient's anatomy and needs.
Zygomatic bone and possibility of fracture
The term zygomatic bone refers to the cheekbone structure, which is naturally strong and good for implant support. A fracture means that in the past there was an injury and a change in the continuity of the bone, sometimes even a change in shape. This does not automatically mean that therapy is not possible. We evaluate each case individually, with 3D imaging, analysis of healing, and assessment of load-bearing zones, so that the plan is safe and predictable. The goal is to base the solution on real anatomy, not assumptions.
For whom are zygomatic implants not recommended?
Although zygomatic implants are a strong solution, there are situations when additional evaluation or a different approach is needed. Serious systemic diseases, active infections in the oral cavity, or specific anatomy of the cheek region may require delay, preparation, or alternatives. It is important to emphasize that no decision is made without detailed diagnostics and 3D imaging, because each case is viewed individually and responsibly. In the Sky Dental Concept practice, the patient's safety is a priority, so the therapy plan is formed only when there are conditions for a medically justified and stable therapy plan.
Zygomatic implants price
The price depends on the complexity of the case, the number of implants, the condition of the teeth and gums, the need for extractions, and the choice of materials for temporary and permanent work. Therefore, the exact amount is determined individually, only after an examination and 3D diagnostics. At the consultation, you receive a clear treatment plan, an explanation of each phase and a transparent offer, so that you know in advance the deadlines, expectations and the total cost of the therapy. Communication set up in this way allows the patient to understand what is included in the price and why, without ambiguity and without hidden items.
